Health fit to Try Scuba

What Health Condition Is Required to Participate in a Try Scuba?

When participating in Try Scuba, you will be asked the following three health-related questions:

Do you currently have, or have you been treated in the past 12 months for, any of the following:

  1.     Heart, circulatory, blood pressure, or bleeding disorders that affect your ability to swim? [ Yes ] [ No ]
  2.     Respiratory or lung diseases (such as asthma or shortness of breath)? [ Yes ] [ No ]
  3.     Musculoskeletal disorders (stamina, strength, mobility) that affect your ability to swim? [ Yes ] [ No ]

If you answered [ No ] to all of these questions, you can participate in the Try Scuba.

If you answered [ Yes ] to any of these questions, you must also complete the Diver Medical Questionnaire. The Diver Medical Questionnaire is a more comprehensive medical screening form used to determine if a doctor's evaluation is needed to assess your suitability for scuba diving.

If you answer "Yes" to any question on the medical questionnaire, it means there may be a condition that affects your safety during the dive. In that case, you need to get a doctor's evaluation on the third page of the form before participating in the scuba diving trial.

Read the Diver Medical Questionnaire here.

If the medical questionnaire instructs you to obtain a medical certificate for diving, it must be submitted to us before pool practice.

When participating in the Open Water Diving course or any advanced course (excluding theory courses), you must always complete the Diver Medical Questionnaire. Only the Try Scuba uses the shorter, three-question health survey.
